Comprehensive Lactation Consultant Services

Supporting Your Breastfeeding Journey Every Step of the Way

My breastfeeding education services are designed to empower parents with the knowledge and skills they need for successful breastfeeding. These services include:

  • Comprehensive Information: Providing evidence-based information on the benefits of breastfeeding, how to establish and maintain milk supply, and how to handle common challenges.
  • Workshops and Classes: Offering group workshops and individual classes tailored to the needs of expectant and new parents.
  • Online Resources: Online resources to reinforce learning and provide ongoing support.

Collaborative care involves working closely with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive support for breastfeeding families. This approach includes:

  • Team Coordination: Coordinating care with obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers to address any medical issues that may affect breastfeeding.
  • Referrals and Resources: Providing referrals to specialists such as pediatric dentists, speech therapists, or lactation consultants when additional support is needed.
  • Integrated Support: Ensuring that all aspects of a family’s health care plan support breastfeeding goals, from prenatal care through the postpartum period.
  • Advocacy: Advocating for policies and practices within healthcare settings that support and promote breastfeeding.

In the 2-hour prenatal consultation, I focus on preparing expectant parents for breastfeeding. This comprehensive session includes:

  • Breastfeeding Education: Providing detailed information on the benefits of breastfeeding, how it works, and what to expect in the early days after birth.
  • Techniques and Positions: Demonstrating various breastfeeding positions and techniques to help parents find what will be most comfortable and effective.
  • Problem Prevention: Discussing common breastfeeding challenges and strategies to prevent or manage issues such as engorgement, latch difficulties, and nipple pain.
  • Creating a Plan: Developing a personalized breastfeeding plan tailored to the family’s needs and preferences, including feeding schedules and how to recognize feeding cues.

During the initial postpartum consultation, I aim to support new mothers and their babies in establishing successful breastfeeding practices. This session typically includes:

  • Assessment of Latch: Evaluating and improving the baby’s latch to ensure effective breastfeeding and prevent nipple pain.
  • Breastfeeding Techniques: Providing hands-on guidance and support for different breastfeeding positions and techniques.
  • Addressing Concerns: Answering questions and addressing common issues such as milk supply concerns, sore nipples, and engorgement.
  • Emotional Support: Offering encouragement and reassurance during the early postpartum period to help new mothers feel confident and supported.
  • Clinical Management:

In clinical management, I provide specialized care to address more complex breastfeeding issues and medical concerns. This service includes:

  • Complex Case Management: Working with cases that involve breastfeeding difficulties due to medical conditions in the mother or baby, such as tongue-tie, mastitis, or low milk supply.
  • Medical Collaboration: Collaborating with healthcare providers to create comprehensive care plans that address underlying health issues affecting breastfeeding.
  • Advanced Lactation Techniques: Utilizing advanced techniques and tools, such as supplemental nursing systems, to support breastfeeding in challenging situations.
  • Follow-Up and Monitoring: Regular follow-ups to monitor progress and adjust care plans as needed to ensure the best outcomes for mother and baby.
